In the Ethics Bowl competition, the breadth and depth of their intellectual humility are demonstrated. I believe it is one of the most intellectually stimulating and demanding academic clubs that a school can offer, rivaling the rigors of a class itself, and possibly the best experience a student may have in all of high school. For its intense focus on respectful, supportive dialogue, Ethics Bowl prepares students for the rigors of a college education and to become leaders in the modern world. Unlike debate, Ethics Bowl does not require adversarial position, but instead, rewards teams for intellectual humility and the ability to see multiple viewpoints behind a moral issue. In this club, we think through complex, relevant issues in the world today. Students like me do very well in this format, which is, I believe, a better preparation for real-world leadership than debate could ever be because it insists that students see the world through the lenses of multiple stakeholders and to treat these views with curiosity and compassion. Being part of the Ethics Bowl helped me improve a lot in the English Proficiency, my intellect, my leadership skills, and my character. Aside from that, I was able to travel to North Carolina to witness the National Competition, which is an added treat! I hope students at GLHS will take advantage of this life-changing opportunity.
